I was so nervous to pop into a wine shop and tell them about my crazy idea of blindly tasting wines and documenting all my failures… online.
Luckily, POUR wineshop in NYC has some fabulous employees and were more than happy to give me a few glasses for me to blind taste… And then they even took the time to explain a little bit about each one (after I got them incorrect, of course).
The first wine they poured for me….
Super clear in the class… So light in color and light bodied too. What color would you call that? Straw? Anyway, got some stoney fruits, and a definitely grassy, green smell. Maybe even a little steely or something? When I tasted it, I got all the things I had sensed with smell…
So, after just re-writing all that, it makes sense to me what the correct answer is…
But, in full honesty, I did not guess correctly.
I wrote down maybe Sauv Blanc or Pinot Grigio. Then, for my final conclusion, I picked Pinot Grigio!

Oops…2011 Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.
What are the tasting notes for this wine?
Zingy Sauvignon Blanc hits the spot! Bright, zippy, tangy, and refreshing, it possesses all the qualities we expect from a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc! The jubilant aromas include lime pith, fresh-cut grass, and grapefruit.
SO – I got the grass. But missed the lime & grapefruit. I thought it was stone fruit (like peaches or apricot). Mental note to self….
Peter at Pour told me there were some “gooseberries” notes that are typical of Sauv Blanc as well
Sadly, I have NO CLUE what a gooseberry tastes like.
Maybe I need to just drink some more Sauv blanc from New Zealand.
*Now in my defence, the other day I had a Pinot Grgio that had some green notes too (and maybe was a bit bitter).
Is that normal for Pinot grigio? Help me out in the comments!!
